The difference between busbars and cables
Reading volume:266 Release time:2024-03-25 09:58:50

A cable is an electrical or signal transmission device, usually composed of several wires or groups of wires. A wire made of one or more insulated conductors and an external insulation protective layer, which transmits electricity or information from one place to another. It is often a cable similar to a rope made up of several wires or groups of wires (at least two in each group) twisted together, with each group of wires insulated from each other and often twisted around a center. The entire outer layer is covered with a highly insulated layer. Cables have the characteristics of internal electrification and external insulation.
From a structural perspective, wires and cables are flexible (with an internal copper core and an external insulation layer) that can be bent, while busbars are rigid (with an internal hard copper bar and an external steel or aluminum alloy shell) that cannot be bent and require specially made elbows;
From the perspective of usage characteristics, the installation and production of wires and cables are complicated, and each electrical equipment needs to be independently wired. The installation of busbars is convenient and flexible, and it is not easy to install incorrectly. A busbar can provide power for many devices at the same time.
From the perspective of current carrying capacity, wires and cables are capable of carrying small currents, while busbars are capable of carrying large currents. Busbars can meet a maximum rated current of 5000A; And multiple cables need to be connected in parallel.
Busbars save space, while cables require a lot of space. The busbar can be controlled at the closest position to the equipment, while the cables must be controlled in the distribution room. The busbar is equipped with standard installation brackets and does not require any other support; The cables must be laid using separate cable trays or pipelines. The service life of the busbar can reach 50 years and can be reused. And the cable is short and cannot be reused. The tapping interface of the busbar can add tapping circuits, and the cables must be laid in the distribution room. The insurance cost for installing busbars is relatively low, while cables are relatively high.
